Remembering Marquell
A life held close in memory
MarQuell Ahmad Dale (March 7, 1998 – July 17, 2020) brought enthusiasm and warmth to the people who knew him. Born in Crestview, Florida, MarQuell later lived in Texas where he attended Royal High School in Brookshire and became well known on the basketball court for his jump shot and competitive spirit. He loved the game, competed with AAU teams, and enjoyed friendly trash-talk and long nights of play with teammates and friends.
Outside of sports, MarQuell had a quick sense of humor and an easy laugh that made him the jokester of his circle. He enjoyed video games with friends and had an affinity for numbers and math. Those who knew him remember a polite young man who treated elders with respect and shared a warm, contagious smile.
After high school, MarQuell pursued service in the U.S. Air Force, enlisting as an Airman First Class with the 55th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, where he worked as an inbound cargo technician. During his service he earned recognition including the Air Force Training Ribbon and other unit awards.
MarQuell is survived by his mother, Latica Harrison; his father, Grear Dale III; grandparents Hazel Hendrix Westbrooks and Claudia Dale; siblings Mario Brown Jr., Demorrion, Danika and Shalena Dale; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who treasured him. Family accounts describe special appreciation for relatives and friends who helped in the days after his passing.
Visitation and services were arranged by Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Family and friends were invited to honor his memory with a celebration of life, and those who cared for him recall his laugh, his love of basketball, and the small ways he brightened ordinary days. MarQuell’s life — as a son, brother, friend, athlete and airman — left an impression on those around him and is remembered with affection.
