Remembering Mark

A life held close in memory

Mark Timothy Madden Jr., born August 19, 1994, is fondly remembered for his bright spirit, academic drive, and dedication to his community. Raised in the Bay Area, Mark’s early life included years in Hayward and later East Palo Alto, where he grew into a thoughtful student and committed athlete. At Sequoia High School he embraced the International Baccalaureate program, played football and wrestled, and even participated in a student exchange that took him to Germany — experiences that shaped his curiosity and global outlook.

After graduating Sequoia in 2012, Mark continued his studies at San Francisco State University as a biology major with the clear goal of entering medicine. On campus he tutored fellow students in math and writing, sharing his knowledge and helping underclassmen find their footing. Mark also worked at Stanford Hospital and had plans to expand his involvement in medical internships, demonstrating an eagerness to learn and to serve others.

Those who knew Mark remember his positive attitude, quick sense of humor, and the quiet leadership he showed among friends, teammates, and younger students he mentored. He volunteered with local youth wrestling programs and stayed connected to teammates and classmates who admired his work ethic and steady presence.

Mark is survived by his mother and stepfather, Margo Ann and Sean Edward Holley of Fremont; his father, Mark T. Madden, Sr. of Baltimore; and his brothers Trae’Vion Joshua Williams, Marquis Madden, Brandon Holley, and Abel Brett Holley, along with a wide circle of relatives and friends who continue to cherish his memory.

Mark’s family asked that he be remembered with the words he carried close: “Being fearless with God by my side.” His life — though cut tragically short — is recalled for the promise he showed, the support he gave others, and the genuine warmth he offered to everyone he met.
