In loving memory of
Marcia Husband
June 3, 1957 — August 4, 2018
She was one of the most thoughtful people I have ever known, she could be opinionated but her heart was pure gold.
Remembering Marcia
A life held close in memory
Marcia was born in Walla Walla, Washington, the middle child between the family’s firstborn granddaughter and a set of twins. There were four of us girls, raised primarily by our mother after she and our father divorced when we were young. With so much attention divided among her sisters, I believe Marcia often felt invisible and struggled to find where she belonged.
She had only a few close friends growing up, and as the years passed, our mother became not only her best friend but, in many ways, her only true companion. Marcia’s greatest dream was to have a child and become a mother, although marriage never seemed as important to her. She became engaged, but after learning she was pregnant, she ended the relationship and moved to Fort Bragg, California, where our mother was living.
Together, Marcia and our mother raised her daughter, Arianna, for several years. Their lives were closely intertwined until our mother became ill with cancer. When Mom passed away, Marcia’s entire world seemed to shatter. She struggled to imagine life without the person who had always been her closest source of love, friendship, and support.
Overwhelmed by grief, Marcia increasingly turned to alcohol to cope with her pain. Her relationship with Arianna suffered, and eventually Arianna moved out when she was fifteen. Marcia then withdrew from nearly everyone, isolating herself until she was on the verge of being evicted from her home.
At that point, she came to Las Vegas to stay with me. We were fortunate to have a few years together before Marcia was also diagnosed with cancer. Rather than expressing fear, she found comfort in the belief that she would soon be reunited with our mother. Marcia passed away the day after Mom’s birthday, a timing that felt deeply meaningful to her family.
Marcia’s life was marked by struggle, loneliness, and the lifelong search for a place where she truly felt she belonged. Although she often had difficulty recognizing her own worth, she was deeply loved. Her story is one of a woman who longed for connection, carried profound grief, and found peace in the hope of being reunited with the mother who had meant everything to her.
