Remembering Lidia
A life held close in memory
Lidia Judith “Judy” Juarez-Alba (September 25, 1979 – June 9, 2017) was a devoted mother, faithful parishioner, and committed human services caseworker whose warmth and generosity were known across DeKalb and Sycamore.
Born on September 25, 1979, Lidia was raised by her parents Jose J. Alba and Lidia Alba (Gaytan-Diaz De Leon). She completed her education in the local schools and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from Kaplan University. Lidia brought that combination of local roots and professional dedication to her work for more than eight years at the Illinois Department of Human Services, where she helped families and individuals in need.
Lidia was an active member of the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore, giving her time and talents to both the parish and the school. Her faith and volunteer spirit were central to her life and reflected in the way she supported her children, family, and friends.
She is survived by her children, Santana Luna Juarez and Zoey Luna Juarez; her parents, Jose and Lidia Alba; her brother, Jose (Melinda) Alba, Jr.; her maternal grandmother, Francisca Diaz; nieces and nephew Josie, Addie and JT; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Lidia was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jose Gaytan, and her paternal grandparents, Epifanio and Raquel Alba.
Visitation was held at Butala Funeral Home & Crematory in Sycamore with a prayer service and funeral Mass at the Church of St. Mary, followed by burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Resource Bank for the benefit of Santana and Zoey Juarez or to an established GoFundMe organized to support the children.
Lidia’s life was characterized by care for others — as a mother, a colleague, and a neighbor. Those who knew her remember a woman who quietly offered help, who found purpose in service, and who loved her family deeply. Her memory remains with those she supported and the community she served.
