Remembering Leigh
A life held close in memory
Leigh C. Herring (January 4, 1981 – December 30, 2020) is remembered for his steady presence, practical skills, and devotion to family. Born in Peoria, Leigh grew up in the community he loved and carried those local roots throughout his life. He married in 2007 and later married Michelle Sydnor in 2016; he is survived by his wife, his mother Diana Dailey, a twin brother Eric Herring, several siblings, and four children—Bradley, Janessa, Morena, and Christian.
A proud veteran, Leigh served with the Illinois Army National Guard and deployed to Afghanistan in 2009, where he was wounded and later awarded a Purple Heart. His service left an imprint on those who knew him—people remember a calm, dependable man who carried himself with quiet dignity.
After his military service, Leigh brought that same dedication to his work. He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. in Mossville and later worked as a security officer with G4S at Caterpillar’s downtown offices. He enjoyed hands-on projects—working on cars and electronics—and was known to ride his motorcycle and visit the gun range in his spare time.
Family and everyday moments meant a great deal to Leigh. Those closest to him recall a gentle temperament and a willingness to help when needed. He treasured time with his children and relatives, and his easygoing nature made him a steady presence in family gatherings.
Cremation was chosen and a graveside service was held in January 2021 at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorials to St. Jude’s Midwest Affiliate.
Leigh’s life was one of service—to his country, to his employers, and to his family. He is remembered for the practical talents he shared, the quiet strength he showed, and the ordinary, meaningful ways he loved those close to him.
