Remembering Lee
A life held close in memory
Lee David Lipps, born November 11, 1983, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, was a caring family man whose life centered on those closest to him. He lived in Pennington Gap and shared a life with his wife, Latashia Carson. Lee was deeply connected to his mother, Donna Sternberg, his foster mother Kathy Rowles, and a large extended family who meant everything to him.
Family was at the center of Lee’s world. He is remembered by brothers Gary Lynn Lipps and Bobby Herron (and wife Lilly), and sisters Della Beard, Sharon Lipps, and Pamela Lakeman. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews who brought daily joy to family gatherings and helped keep the family circle strong. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Carl Lipps, his foster father, Chuck Rowles, and a brother, Ernest Jack Lipps.
Those who knew Lee recall a man whose presence mattered in ordinary moments—family visits, neighborhood life in Pennington Gap, and times spent with those closest to him. The funeral service brought together relatives and friends to celebrate his life, with visitation and services held in Pennington Gap and a burial at the Rowles Family Cemetery in Big Stone Gap.
Lee’s family welcomed memorials and messages of sympathy as they grieved his passing. Though his life was cut short, the ties he formed and the memories he leaves with his wife, mother, siblings, and extended family remain the enduring testament to who he was: a devoted family member and a person who cherished his community and loved ones.
