Remembering Kobi

A life held close in memory

Kobi Lee Walden (August 14, 1985 – May 1, 2017) was a devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and a presence of joy in his communities. Born in Muncie and raised by his family with kindness and humor, Kobi graduated from Monroe Central High School and went on to study at Butler University. He carried his passions — for skating, music and camaraderie — into everything he did.

Kobi found deep companionship in roller derby, skating as number 47 for the Race City Rebels, where teammates recall his energy, competitive spirit and easy laugh. He was also a talented musician who shared his gifts with the Indy Pride Band when he could, bringing people together through music and celebration. Outside of sports and music, Kobi worked as a retail store manager, where colleagues remember his dependable work ethic and friendly manner.

Family was central to Kobi’s life. He treasured moments with his mother and siblings and was a beloved uncle whose playful nature brightened family gatherings. He loved Star Wars, which delighted friends and family who remembered his enthusiastic fandom and how readily he would strike up a conversation about his favorite characters.

Kobi’s kindness, loyalty and willingness to lift others made him a valued friend and teammate. Though his life was cut tragically short, those who knew him recall a man who approached life with warmth, humor and an open heart. He is remembered for the simple, everyday ways he made people smile — on the track, in rehearsal, at work and at home.

Services were handled through Walker Funeral Home (Winchester, IN). Those wishing to honor Kobi’s memory are encouraged to celebrate the activities he loved: time spent with family and friends, music that brings people together, and the joyful spirit of community that he embodied.

Kobi was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
