Remembering Kionyah
A life held close in memory
Kionyah Kahley Shorts, affectionately called "Keedy," was born August 20, 2007, and passed from this life on August 10, 2025. A beloved daughter of Kionte Shorts and Cassidy Gabriel-Blair, Kionyah was known to family and friends as a young woman who brightened rooms with her presence. She is remembered by a wide circle of relatives and loved ones—grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends—who treasured her and the joy she brought into their lives.
Kionyah’s family honored her memory with gatherings that reflected their love and respect: a visitation and homegoing service were held at Fischer Community Church in New Orleans, followed by interment at Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna. Professional arrangements were entrusted to Majestic Mortuary Service, Inc., which assisted the family during this time.
Though her life was far too brief, Kionyah’s place in the lives of her family and community endures through the stories, memories, and quiet moments she shared with those closest to her. Her family asked for privacy and respect as they mourned, and for acts of sympathy to be directed in ways that would support the healing they sought.
Kionyah’s passing left an unmistakable void for those who loved her. In remembering her, family and friends hold on to the small, irreplaceable pieces of a young life—her laughter, the relationships she nurtured, and the love that will continue to tie her memory to the people who survive her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who carry forward her memory.
