Their life, in the words of those who remember
The story of Kimberly Thompson Wright
Kimberly Thompson Wright lived much of her adult life in the Flint, Michigan area and served her community as a dispatcher for the Flint Police Department. Colleagues and family remembered her as someone whose work supported public safety and helped others in urgent moments.
She was 34 when she died on May 1, 1993. Though public records and news coverage focus on the later legal developments connected with her death, the fuller public record about Kimberly’s everyday life is limited. What is verifiable is that she worked in public safety at a time when dispatchers played a critical, often unheralded role connecting residents with emergency services; that she had family ties in the region; and that her passing affected those who knew her personally.
In the years after her death, those who cared about Kimberly pursued answers and accountability; in 2003 a jury convicted her former husband in connection with her death. While those events are part of the official record, Kimberly’s life — her work, relationships, and the ordinary kindnesses that do not always appear in public documents — are what a remembrance should hold first.
Because contemporary, family-authorized obituary material published at the time has not been located through publicly available archives, this page focuses on honoring Kimberly as a real person who served her community. She was more than the headlines that later followed; she was a daughter, a woman who worked in public service, and someone whose life left an imprint on family and friends. May this remembrance reflect the dignity of that life and the care of those who sought justice and closure on her behalf.
