Remembering Kevin

A life held close in memory

Kevin James Fowler of the Kansas City area passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2017. Born May 16, 1988, in Merriam, Kansas, Kevin carried with him the warmth of a Midwestern upbringing and the steady loyalty that everyone who knew him remembers. A graduate of Olathe Northwest High School, he was an enthusiastic sportsman in his youth — playing competitive baseball and soccer — and remained a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals throughout his life.

Kevin is lovingly remembered as a proud father to his three daughters, Eva, Leyla, and Skyla, who were the center of his world. His easy smile and genuine care for others made him a cherished son to Bob and Amy Fowler and a beloved brother to Matt, Steven, Garrett, and Whitney. Family gatherings were brighter with Kevin’s presence; friends and relatives recall his dependable nature and the quick laugh he shared with anyone lucky enough to call him a friend.

Those who worked and spent time with Kevin often described him as loyal and good-humored, a person who made routine days feel lighter. He built lasting friendships through his kindness and willingness to stand by people in both small moments and difficult times. Kevin’s memory lives on in the stories his family and friends tell, in the traditions they continue, and in the lives of his daughters.

A memorial service to celebrate Kevin’s life was held on September 5, 2017, at Overland Park Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations to CASA of Johnson and Wyandotte Counties as a way to honor Kevin’s caring spirit and his commitment to family and community. Though gone far too soon, Kevin’s warmth, loyalty, and love for his daughters and family remain as a lasting tribute to a life that mattered to many.
