Remembering Kevin
A life held close in memory
Kevin Daniel Mahoney (December 5, 1959 – March 22, 2021) was a devoted family man and lifelong outdoorsman whose steady warmth touched those around him. A committed husband to his wife Ellen for 35 years and a proud father of two, Kevin placed family at the center of his life — he never missed a school event or a child’s game and looked forward with joy to becoming a grandfather.
Professionally, Kevin built a respected career in hotel development and asset management, holding key roles that reflected his work ethic and thoughtful leadership. After a long career he remained connected to his community in Boulder, where he and Ellen settled in 1995. In retirement he continued to give back, volunteering with local efforts such as Boulder County Meals on Wheels.
Outside of work and service, Kevin loved simple, active pleasures: walking, hiking and skiing were among his favorite ways to spend time, often shared with family and friends. Those who knew him remember an easy smile and a lighthearted spirit that could brighten a room. He is survived by his wife Ellen, his son Drew, his daughter Erika (and her husband Brandt Bates), and the wider family who treasured him.
Kevin’s family recalls a man defined by kindness, dependable presence, and gentle humor. Though his life was cut far too short, his warmth, generosity and the memories he created with family and friends endure. He will be remembered for the love he gave and the quiet ways he made ordinary days meaningful.
