Obituary
A formal remembrance
Kenneth “Kenny” DeFrancesco (Sept. 21 — Aug. 28, 2022) lived a life shaped by family, service and steady work. Born in Detroit and later making his home in Anchor Point, Kenny was the eldest of seven children and carried a strong sense of responsibility throughout his life.
A veteran of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, Kenny completed Airborne training at Fort Bragg and served with the dedication many in his family remember. After his military service he worked in the logging industry for many years, a demanding line of work that suited his practical, hands-on approach to life.
Kenny married Carol (Haakinson) DeFrancesco in 1966; that marriage brought three children into his life, and he later became father to additional children in subsequent marriages. He is remembered by his children — Debbie Heitstuman, Gaytona (Tona) DeFrancesco, Rick DeFrancesco, and Sequoyah DeFrancesco — and by grandchildren and step-grandchildren who carried forward his family ties across several states. Siblings, nieces, nephews and a network of friends in the Anchor Point area also survive him.
Friends and family who knew Kenny recall a grounded, dependable presence: a man who took pride in his service, in his work, and in the gatherings that brought relatives together. A celebration of his life was held in Anchor Point where those who loved him shared memories and a meal in his honor.
Though he is gone, Kenneth’s roles as father, grandfather, brother and veteran remain central to the memory of his life. He is remembered for his steady work ethic, his service, and the family connections that defined him.
