Remembering Karón
A life held close in memory
Karón Lasha Bernice “KK” Barrow (Jan. 28, 1989 – Feb. 20, 2010) was remembered for her radiant smile, lively personality, and love for family. Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, Karón grew up surrounded by relatives who knew her as a caring daughter and a devoted sister. She was a 2008 graduate of Shelby High School, where classmates voted her “Most likely to host a talk show” and nominated her for Homecoming Queen — small honors that reflected her outgoing nature and the warmth she shared with friends.
Karón worked at Ruby Tuesday in Shelby, where her professional and friendly manner made customers feel welcome. She was an active member of New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church and a loving mother to her two daughters, Ja'Kayla and Kallie Wilson, who were central to her life and joy. Her family remembers her as someone who carried herself with pride and who often greeted others with kindness and an easy laugh.
She is survived by her mother, Karon Denise Barrow; her father, David Pegeese Jr.; her daughters; brothers; and an extended circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who treasured her presence. The family gathered at New Ellis Baptist Church to celebrate her life, and she was laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery. Though her life was far too short, those who knew Karón recall the light she brought into everyday moments — a supportive friend, a proud young mother, and a woman whose smile lingered in the memories of those who loved her.
Karón’s memory lives on in her daughters and in the many small, meaningful ways she touched the lives around her: through laughter, a warm greeting, and a spirited sense of self. She is remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew her.
