Obituary

A formal remembrance

Kaaree Wade Hipsher-Burton, known to many as “Blue,” was born June 23, 2004. In his short life he was remembered as a naturally outgoing, adventurous young man who brought smiles and laughter to those who knew him. Raised by his family from an early age, Kaaree was cherished as a son, brother, grandson and friend.

Family was central to Kaaree’s life. He is lovingly survived by his mother Miyah Hipsher; father Keith Burton; Leonard Small, who helped raise him; siblings Imani, Keith, Leondré, Germahad, Jamaria and Lenai; and a wide circle of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who remembered him as playful, determined and protective of those he loved. Those closest to him recall his charm, quick humor and the way he could turn a “no” into a “yes” with persistent pleading and a grin.

Kaaree worked to support himself and took pride in earning money and contributing where he could. He approached life with curiosity and boldness, often finding creative ways through tricky situations and lighting up a room with his presence. His family’s celebration of Kaaree’s life in October 2022 brought together relatives and friends who gathered to remember his warmth, spirit and the joy he shared.

Though his life was cut far too short, Kaaree’s memory endures in the stories told by those who loved him: the laugh he left behind, the loyalty he showed, and the small but meaningful ways he tried to care for himself and his family. In lieu of flowers, his family suggested donations to causes meaningful to them. Kaaree’s name remains with those who hold him in their hearts, a reminder of a young life that mattered deeply to his community.
