Remembering Justin

A life held close in memory

Justin R. Bracken, 34, of Leeds, North Dakota, is remembered for his steady work ethic, warm smile, and the simple joys he shared with family and friends. Raised in Carrington and Cando, Justin graduated from Cando High School in 2006 and pursued farm management studies at Northland Community and Technical College. Farming was more than a job to him — it was his passion and his dream. For 14 years he worked alongside the Dulmage family, who he regarded as extended family and who helped him toward his goal of someday owning his own land.

Justin loved time spent outdoors and with those close to him. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, gardening, cooking, and annual traditions like sausage- and lefse-making that brought the family together. As a youth he took part in hockey and wrestling, and later delighted in sharing his love of hockey with young Bryson. Family gatherings were important to Justin; he treasured visits with grandparents and looked forward to yearly Bahm family reunions.

His devotion to family extended into his relationship with Paige and her children, Bryson and Ashiya, whom he embraced and supported — attending games, riding with the kids in the tractor, and joining in everyday life with quiet generosity. Friends recall Justin’s easy grin and the small, familiar pleasures that fit him so well: morning coffee visits, taking on new projects, and the companionship of his dog Polly.

Justin is survived by his partner, Paige Dykstra; children Bryson and Ashiya Dather; parents Kevin and Wendy Bahm and Robert Bracken; siblings Josh (Rachael) Bracken, Chris Bahm, Kyle Bahm, Shanae Bracken, and Becky Campbell; nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents Lyle and Beatrice Bracken and Myrna Robinson.

A memorial service was held at Leeds Lutheran Church on September 6, 2022. Those who loved Justin remember him not for how his life ended but for his warmth, his readiness to help, and the laughter he brought to ordinary days. He will be missed by family and friends who carry forward the memories of his kindness and the small traditions he held dear.
