Remembering Joshua

A life held close in memory

Joshua Anthony Richardson (March 1, 1990 – September 6, 2014) was a beloved son, brother and friend from Columbus, Mississippi. Known to family and friends as “Big Josh” and “Hammer,” Joshua had a generous spirit and a warm presence that put others at ease. He graduated from Columbus High School in 2008 and continued his education at East Mississippi Community College and Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he played on the football team and earned an Associate’s degree. Joshua’s faith was important to him; he confessed Christ under the leadership of Bishop Bobby L. McCarter, Sr., and was a member of Victory F.G. Baptist Church.

Joshua cared for those around him in simple, steady ways. He worked with Baucom Janitorial Services and was often remembered by co‑workers and neighbors for his kindness and quiet reliability. To his family he was a source of light and laughter, and to his friends he was a loyal companion who would lend a hand without hesitation.

He is survived by his parents, Johnnie and Lillie Richardson; brothers Caleb and Jonathan Richardson; sisters Chekita and Kimberly Richardson; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who treasured him. Those who knew Joshua recall a young man who loved his family, took pride in his accomplishments, and left a lasting impression through his compassion and generosity.

Joshua’s life is remembered for the love he gave and the connections he made in his community. Though his time was far too brief, the memory of his smile, his devotion to family, and his warmth will remain with those who loved him.

Joshua was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
