Remembering Joseph

A life held close in memory

Joseph “Trevor” Dilger, 24, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on September 4, 2016. Born February 6, 1992, in Georgetown, Kentucky, Trevor was a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and served with honor in the 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry of the Kentucky National Guard. He was proud to serve his country and cherished time spent with family and friends.

Trevor was known for the warmth of his smile and a knack for brightening ordinary moments with a story or a laugh. Family meant everything to him; he was a beloved son of Lyda Wells Dilger and P.J. Dilger and a devoted brother to Katie Dilger. Trevor enjoyed being part of a close-knit circle of relatives and friends who remember him for his humor, easygoing nature, and loyalty.

Family members recall his quiet pride in service and the steady, caring presence he offered those around him. He is survived by his parents, sister, maternal grandmother, and many aunts, uncles and cousins whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bridie and Patrick Joseph Dilger Sr., and his maternal grandfather, William “Bill” Wells.

A memorial service to celebrate Trevor’s life was held on September 24, 2016 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, with visitation beforehand. Those who loved him continue to honor his memory by sharing stories, photographs and the simple recollections of a young man who treasured family and service.

Trevor’s life — his service, his laughter, and his place in a loving family — remains the heart of how he is remembered. Though taken too soon, the kindness he showed and the relationships he nurtured endure in the memories of those who knew him.
