Remembering Jose

A life held close in memory

Jose C. Araujo, age 30, of Milford, entered into eternal rest on March 26, 2015. Born on September 23, 1984, in São Nicolau, Cape Verde, Jose moved to the United States with his family when he was a teenager and grew into a man who valued family above all else. A proud graduate of Central High School (Class of 2003), he worked as a laborer for Burns Construction Co., where he was known for his strong work ethic.

Friends and family remember Jose for his winning smile and his easygoing spirit. He enjoyed keeping active — playing soccer, working out, and dancing — and took pleasure in the everyday moments shared with loved ones. He is survived by his mother, Maria de Fatima Cabral Araujo; his father, Joao Raimundo Araujo; his son, Jose J. Araujo; his sister, Maria Araujo; brothers Antonio Araujo and Joao Araujo; his life partner, Analia Gray, and her daughters Milani and Brianna; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Celestine Cabral Araujo.

Family and friends gathered to honor Jose’s life with visitation at Parente-Lauro Funeral Home in Bridgeport and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Cathedral, followed by entombment at Mountain Grove Cemetery. Those who knew him recall a man who worked to support his family and who brightened rooms with warmth and generosity.

Jose’s life — though cut tragically short — left a lasting impression on those who loved him. His family’s love and the memories he created remain a testament to his spirit and the care he gave to those closest to him.
