Jose Araujo

Jose C. Araujo, born September 23, 1984, in São Nicolau, Cape Verde, brought energy and kindness to every room he entered. He emigrated to the United States at age 14 and became part of the Milford community after graduating from Central High School with the Class of 2003. Over the years Jose built a life defined by steady work and devotion to family. He spent his final years working as a laborer for Burns Construction, supporting his loved ones and his young son. Outside of work, Jose enjoyed staying active — he loved working out, playing soccer and dancing — and many remember him for his winning smile and the quiet, selfless ways he helped others. Jose is survived by his mother, Maria de Fatima Cabral Araujo; his father, Joao Raimundo Araujo; his son, Jose J. Araujo; his sister Maria Araujo; brothers Antonio Araujo (and wife Lucy) and Joao Araujo (and wife Mona Lisa); his life partner, Analia Gray, and her daughters Milani and Brianna Gray; and many nieces and nephews who treasured him. He was predeceased by his brother Celestine Cabral Araujo. Family and friends gathered to honor Jose’s life with calling hours at Parente-Lauro Funeral Home in Bridgeport and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine Cathedral, followed by entombment at Mountain Grove Cemetery. Though his life ended far too soon on March 26, 2015, those who knew Jose remember him first for his devotion to family, his love of movement and sport, and the warmth he offered to others. His memory endures in the son he loved and the many family members and friends who continue to cherish him.
