John Pompilus

John Carlos “Carlos” Pompilus was born September 20, 2005, in Fort Lauderdale and grew up in Lauderhill surrounded by a large, close family. Known to classmates simply as John but called “Carlos” by relatives, he showed intellectual curiosity and a love of learning from an early age. Teachers noted his strong academic performance and he frequently earned honors and awards for achievement and attendance.

Carlos attended Larkdale Elementary and Eagles Nest Charter Academy, where he was placed in advanced classes. Later he enrolled at Dillard High School in the Emerging Computer Technology Magnet Program, taking AP and college-level coursework while still a young teen. He played one season on Dillard’s junior varsity team and had plans to continue his education — he was interested in attending Florida State University in the future.

Outside the classroom Carlos enjoyed reading (notably the I Survive series and the Harry Potter books), watching documentaries, and listening to hip‑hop artists he admired. Family and the church played important roles in his life: he sang with his church’s youth choir as a child and kept strong ties with siblings and extended family. Those who knew him remember a playful, funny young man with a quick wit, who could light up a room and who approached life with energy and determination.

His sudden passing on December 15, 2023, was a profound loss for his family, friends, and the Lauderhill community. While public records about the circumstances are limited here, what remains clear from family tributes and funeral materials is that Carlos was cherished for his intelligence, his humor, and his deep family bonds. He is remembered as a promising young person whose academic promise and warm personality left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
