Obituary
A formal remembrance
John "Dougie" Douglas Poteet Jr., 21, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away July 21, 2023. Born January 18, 2002, Dougie was known for the warmth he brought to family gatherings and for the easy laughter he shared with friends. He loved spending time with relatives and especially treasured quiet days fishing with his Uncle Eric. Those who knew him remember a kind, funny and gentle young man who put family first.
Dougie was the beloved son of Bridget Barnes and Doug Poteet. He is survived by his mother and father; sisters Alisha Poteet (Sam), Brooklyn Anderson, and Alexus Poteet (Robert); grandmothers Tammy Hattermer and Diana Poteet; grandfather Steve Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews who brought him great joy. He was preceded in death by grandparents Vernon Hattermer, Brent Poteet, Pete Miller, and Collen Hattermer.
Family and friends recall Dougie for the small, meaningful moments that defined him: fishing trips that became memories to laugh about for years, gatherings where he was quick with a joke, and a gentle presence that comforted those around him. Though taken far too soon, his life left a clear impression on those who loved him.
Funeral services were conducted by J.B. Ratterman & Sons Funerals & Family Cremation Care in Louisville, and his final resting place is Cave Hill Cemetery. In honoring Dougie’s memory, his family and community remember a young man whose affection for his loved ones and quiet pleasures—especially time spent with family—will continue to be treasured.
