Their life, in the words of those who remember

The story of John Cobb

John Larkin Cobb (born August 22, 1963) was known to family and friends as a man of steady faith, generous spirit and active hands-on life. A long-time Springfield resident, he trained as an ASE-certified technician and later owned and operated businesses in the region, finding satisfaction in practical work and helping others solve problems.

John served his community beyond his business life: he volunteered as a reserve deputy and rode with the mounted patrol in Robertson County, reflecting a commitment to public service. He was deeply involved in his church, serving as an associate pastor and leading praise and worship — roles that his family say brought him great purpose. Those who knew him remember an energetic love of outdoors and adventure: water sports, four-wheeling, motorcycling, skiing, horseback riding and driving sports cars were among the activities that brought him joy.

Family was the center of John’s life. He and his wife, Michelle, were married for many years and raised children; he was a proud grandfather. Accounts from the family describe him as unselfish and faith-filled, someone who leaned on belief and community in hard times and celebrated life’s moments with enthusiasm.

After being struck by a stray projectile during Fourth of July activities in Winchester, Tennessee, John was taken for medical care. In keeping with his and his family’s wishes, he remained on support to allow organ donation; his decision gave the gift of life to others. That final act of generosity is remembered by his loved ones as an expression of the practical compassion that marked much of his life.

Public records and local reporting capture fragments of John’s life — his vocation, his volunteer service, his devotion to faith and family, and his love of active pastimes. Those facts point to a man who cared for others, served his community, and found meaning in relationships and action. He is remembered by family and neighbors as a husband, father and grandfather whose life made a tangible difference to those around him.
