Remembering John

A life held close in memory

John Carl Lunsford Jr. (October 20, 1978 — June 27, 2017) was a devoted family man whose generous spirit and easygoing presence left a lasting impression on those who knew him. A 1997 graduate of Milton High School, John cherished time spent with his close circle of friends and relatives and especially enjoyed gatherings around bonfires where laughter and shared stories were plentiful.

John’s love for family was central to his life. He is remembered by his wife, Dani Lunsford, and by his mother, Pamela Lunsford Waller (and her husband, Tom Waller), who survive him. He is also survived by his brother Jimmy Hood and sisters Jennifer Pelfrey, Leslie Turner, Carlie Roof (Colby), and Ashley Wozniak (Brian). Those who gathered with John knew him as someone who valued the simple, meaningful moments — visits home, shared meals, and time with friends — and who quietly put the needs of others before his own.

Family and friends honored John’s life with services that reflected the warmth he offered to those around him. In July 2017, loved ones came together at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors & Crematory to celebrate his memory and to offer comfort to one another. John was laid to rest at Green Lawn Cemetery.

While words cannot fully capture the comfort he gave to family and friends, those who knew John remember him for his big heart, his steady loyalty, and the way ordinary gatherings seemed brighter with him present. He is missed by his family and community, and his memory endures in the stories and quiet moments they continue to share in his honor.

John was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
