Remembering Javon

A life held close in memory

Javon Anthony Reilly (October 14, 1999 – September 19, 2016) was a bright, stylish young man from Independence, Missouri, whose warmth and energy touched family, classmates and friends. A student at Van Horn High School, Javon loved playing football and basketball and took pride in how he presented himself, often dressing with a confident, personal style and favoring the color blue.

Javon was deeply connected to his family. He shared a close relationship with his mother, Jackie Reilly, and his brothers Jarred and Roy, and his family remembers him as caring, respectful and focused on doing well in school so he could continue to play the sports he loved. Those who knew him recall a young man who could light up a room with his smile and small acts of kindness, a presence that made lasting impressions on classmates and neighbors.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Javon’s life on September 30, 2016, with services at Maywood Baptist Church followed by a community celebration at Hill Park. In the weeks and years after his passing, messages from loved ones repeatedly speak to the affection and memories he left behind — the laughter, the competitive spark on the field or court, and the quiet moments that revealed how much he cared for those close to him.

Though his life was far too brief, Javon’s memory endures in the hearts of many. He is survived by his mother, Jackie Reilly; brothers Jarred and Roy; sisters Tiffany (Smith) Diggs and Tierra Reilly; grandparents and extended family who continue to honor his life. Javon will be remembered for his love of sport, his thoughtful style, and above all, his devotion to family. Those who knew him cherish the years they had with him and carry his spirit forward in small daily remembrances and in the stories they share about a young man who mattered dearly.
