Remembering Javier
A life held close in memory
Javier Bejar (28) served his community with quiet dedication and courage. A United States Marine Corps veteran who completed tours in Iraq and Kuwait, Javier brought that same sense of duty to the Reedley Police Department, which he joined in 2005. Colleagues and community members remember him as a committed public servant who sought to protect others and lead by example.
During his time with Reedley PD, Javier earned recognition for his work — including being named Officer of the Year and receiving honors for life‑saving actions — marks of a young officer who took his responsibilities seriously and who was respected by teammates across local agencies. Off duty he was known to friends and family as someone who cared deeply for those close to him; public notices at the time of his passing named his wife, Miriam, among his survivors and noted the outpouring of support from the Reedley and greater Fresno law‑enforcement communities.
Javier’s life reflected both service and connection: service to his country in uniform with the Marines, and service to his neighbors as a municipal police officer. Funeral services were held March 8, 2010, with hundreds of mourners, fellow officers, and community members gathering to honor his memory and the example he set.
Though his life was cut short, Javier Bejar is remembered for his steadfast commitment to others and the bonds he formed in family and service. His memory endures in the lives he touched, the honors bestowed in recognition of his actions, and the annual remembrances that continue to pay tribute to his sacrifice.
