Their life, in the words of those who remember

The story of Jashira Pagan

Jashira Pagan was known to those who loved her for a lively spirit and a genuine affection for animals. Born June 9, 1992, in Hartford, Jashira made Norwich her home and carried with her a charismatic energy that people remembered—her laugh described as one of her most distinctive and beloved traits. She was an animal lover who was rarely without her pit bull, XO, and she cared for a cat named Mew Mew; her connection with animals was important enough that friends and family later suggested donations to the Connecticut Humane Society in her honor.

Family was central to Jashira’s life. Public notices list her parents, Arisleida Lopez and Juan Pagan, stepparents Scott and Alicia Capano, and siblings and extended family who survived her. Those remembrances emphasize a young woman who enjoyed the beach, appreciated different forms of art, and brought warmth and vivacity to everyday moments. Her presence at gatherings and the way she engaged with people left an impression on many in her community.

In Norwich, Jashira’s life was commemorated by a Mass of Christian Burial on November 12, 2022, followed by burial at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic. In lieu of flowers, her family invited donations to the Connecticut Humane Society—an indication of the tenderness she felt for animals and the causes she cared about.

Public records and local reporting show that Jashira’s life was cut short in early November 2022; while many accounts focus on the tragic circumstances surrounding her death, those who knew her have remembered first the person she was: affectionate toward animals, spirited in company, and someone whose laughter brightened a room. Though the public record concentrates on the events of those final days, the details that remain—her family connections, love of animals, and the joyful energy friends recall—are how she is best honored. This page is meant as a respectful remembrance of Jashira’s life and the small, everyday ways she mattered to those around her.
