A life held close in memory
Jarred Michael “Jrock” Turner Sr., 23, of Houma, Louisiana, passed away at 8:27 a.m. on September 6, 2020. A native of Terrebonne Parish, Jarred was a young father who cherished his children, Jarred Michael Turner Jr. and Kensleigh Turner, and took great pride in his role in their lives.
Jarred was a son and a brother whose presence brightened family gatherings. He is survived by his parents, Jesse Turner Sr. (Rockie) and Andrell Carter Jones (Stanley), and by a large circle of siblings and extended family who remember him for his personality and his place at the center of their lives. Among those who survive him are Jeremy Carter Sr. (April), Jesse Turner (Margaret), Malik Jones, Stanley Jones Jr., Brandi Turner, Jasmine Harold, Mya Turner, Deshante Cole and Destinee Cole. He also leaves behind his maternal grandfather Charles Williams (Sandra), great-grandparents Onita Ruffin Harris (Charles) and Ervin Carter (Ruby), aunts Deborah Thomas (Roosevelt) and Joanetta Parker (Joe), and several uncles and cousins who remain close in memory.
Family members recall Jarred with fondness and gratitude for the everyday ways he connected with those he loved. His life touched many in the Houma community, and his loss was felt deeply by relatives and friends who gathered to honor him.
Services to celebrate Jarred’s life were arranged by Jones Funeral Home of Houma, with visitation held at St. Luke Baptist Church and burial at Southdown Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Sandra Carter Brown and his paternal grandparents James and Peggy Townsend Turner.
Jarred’s family has asked that his memory be honored by holding close the love he showed his children and relatives. Though his time was far too brief, those who loved Jarred remember his smile, his presence at family moments, and the small, meaningful ways he gave to those around him.
