Remembering JaReil

A life held close in memory

JaReil “Jay” Tismal Sudler was a beloved son, brother, cousin, and friend whose bright energy touched many in Reading, Pennsylvania. Born December 9, 2000, Jay was known for his enthusiasm for sports — basketball in particular — and for the small pleasures that brought him joy, like watching Dragon Ball Z and listening to music. Friends and family remember him as polite, compassionate, and easy to be around; he treasured time with his nieces, nephew, cousins, and siblings.

Jay dreamed of building a life in the trades and hoped one day to work in construction and run his own business. He carried with him the everyday hopes of a young man looking forward to opportunities to work and provide for the people he loved. He is remembered not only for his interests but for the way he treated others: with care, courtesy, and an unfussy warmth that made people feel welcome.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Alfonso Colbert; his grandfather, Harvey W. Kimble; and his twin sisters Jaunnesha and Carrie Sudler. He is survived by his mother, Shidina Sudler; his father, Hassan Roane; his maternal grandmother Judy L. Jones; many siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a wide circle of friends who continue to honor his memory.

Family held a private celebration of Jay’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to assist with funeral expenses through the funeral home. Those who knew Jay remember a young man whose love of sports, simple pleasures, and family made ordinary days better for those around him. His memory endures in the stories, the laughter, and the small traditions he shared with those who loved him.
