James Cole

James R. “JimBob” Cole Jr., age 54, of Sand Lake, passed away on September 22, 2018. Born December 16, 1963 in Greenville, Michigan, JimBob was a man who loved the outdoors and simple, steady pleasures: hunting and fishing, antiquing, spending time on the family farm and watching over those he cared for. He took pride in being a papa and in looking after his mother, and found joy in family gatherings and the rhythms of rural life.

JimBob was a devoted father to his children — Shanda, Jessica, Erica, Hunter, Samantha, Aimee and Mykel — and a proud grandfather to Alexis, Tucker, Bryson, Koda, Aaria and Odin. He is also survived by his mother, Gloria Cole, and brothers Jon and Dave Cole. He was preceded in death by his father.

Those who knew JimBob recall a calm, hands-on presence: someone who could be found tending the land, searching out an antique find, or sharing time with family and friends around the farm. He loved animals and treasured his loyal dog, Callie. In keeping with his spirit, the family suggested memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Kent County.

A visitation and service to celebrate his life were held at the Cole Farm in Sand Lake, where friends and family gathered to honor his memory and the quiet, dependable ways he shaped the lives around him. He is remembered for his warmth, his steady care for family, and the small acts of kindness that defined his days.
