Remembering Jamaria
A life held close in memory
Jamaria “J‑Lo” Ross was a cherished seven‑year‑old whose small presence carried a big heart. Family remembered her as a beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece and friend whose smile warmed those around her. Though her time was brief, Jamaria held a special place in the lives of her father, Joseph Ross, and a wide circle of relatives — including grandparents Joseph Allen and Merlin Kent, great‑grandmother Genever Stovall, several aunts and uncles, and many cousins and friends who treasured her memory.
Relatives invited the community to celebrate Jamaria’s life at a service held at Greater Bright Morning Star Full Gospel Baptist Church in New Orleans. In keeping with the family’s wishes, she was laid to rest at Providence Park Cemetery. The family asked that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Davis Family Funeral Fund, and many offered prayers, memories and condolences in the days after her passing.
Though words cannot fully capture a young life, those who knew Jamaria remembered her as a bright and sweet child whose brief time among them left lasting affection. Her family’s notices and the many messages of comfort reflect how deeply she was loved and how her memory endures in the hearts of those who cared for her.
