Remembering Isaiah
A life held close in memory
Isaiah Lamont Efrahyim Chapman (November 6, 1989 – April 7, 2020) is remembered for the warmth he brought to family life and the fierce dedication he showed in the ring. Born and raised in Akron, Isaiah was a graduate of Kenmore High School where he distinguished himself as a champion wrestler. He carried that competitive spirit into a career as a professional mixed martial arts fighter, competing under the nickname “The Beast” and earning respect from teammates, opponents, and fans for his skill and work ethic.
Beyond his public life as an athlete, Isaiah’s deepest joy was his role as a father. He is survived by his children — Faith, Aubrey, and Isaac — who, along with his family, were central to his life. Those who knew him recall a man who balanced his athletic ambitions with a steady devotion to loved ones, offering care and support in everyday moments as well as in times of celebration.
Isaiah’s family honored him with funeral services in Akron in April 2020. Friends and community members came together to remember his achievements, his quiet strength, and the larger promise of a life cut too short. He is also remembered by his mother, Cassandra Wright, and other relatives and friends whose lives he touched.
Isaiah’s legacy lives on through the memories shared by family and the young lives he helped shape. He is remembered not only for his accomplishments as a competitor, but for the gentleness and loyalty he brought to his relationships. Though he passed far sooner than anyone hoped, the care he showed his children and the pride he took in his community continue to endure in their hearts.
