The story of Iiaonna Green

Iiaonna Jayde Green was remembered by family and friends as a warm, creative young woman with a generous spirit and big dreams. Described in a family-published memorial notice as talented in music and the arts, she enjoyed origami, crocheting and calligraphy, and brought light and laughter to those around her. Music was a central part of Iiaonna’s life; she hoped one day to audition for The Voice and admired mentors like Adam Levine. She also spoke of a desire to serve others through a career in nursing with the Army — ambitions that spoke to both her creativity and compassion.

Family references in public tributes identify her parents as Carlos and Jamie Ortiz and name siblings and grandparents among her survivors. Friends and former teachers recalled her ready smile and the kindness she offered classmates, noting that she had a way of befriending people and lifting the mood of a room. The community gathered for a Celebration of Life service in LaGrange, Georgia, where relatives and neighbors came together to honor her memory and the impact she had on those who knew her.

While public reporting confirms that Iiaonna’s life was cut short in late January 2015 alongside other family members and friends, memorials and the family notice are focused first on who she was: a young woman with artistic gifts, a love of music, close family ties, and plans for the future. Her family asked that remembrances be made to a local victim/family assistance fund in lieu of flowers, reflecting a wish that support for others grow from the sorrow of her loss.

Iiaonna’s story, as preserved in funeral notices and community tributes, emphasizes the human qualities she shared — creativity, a welcoming nature, and hope for the future — and those who loved her continue to honor those qualities. Though her life was brief, the memories of her smile, talents and hopes remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
