Remembering Gerald

A life held close in memory

Gerald Andre' Lomax Jr. was a young man whose life centered on family, school, and sports. Known to friends and classmates as “G.A.,” he attended P.D. Jackson‑Olin High School in Birmingham and was active on the varsity football and basketball teams. Teammates and school staff remembered him as a cheerful presence who enjoyed video games and watching sports, and who carried the everyday hopes and ambitions of a senior preparing for the next steps in life.

Born June 1, 2007, Gerald was the son of Gerald Andre' Lomax Sr. and Courtney Brown. He is survived by close family members named in public tributes, including siblings and extended relatives who, along with teammates, coaches, and friends, mourned his passing. The community response after his death reflected the standing he held among classmates and neighbors — people who recalled his smile, his participation in school life, and the promise of youth cut too short.

Gerald was shot after attending a high school basketball game in mid‑November 2024 and died after being taken to a Birmingham hospital. That loss was felt across his school and community, which came together to grieve and to honor his memory. While public records and news accounts focus on the circumstances of his death, family notices and memorials emphasize Gerald’s human ties: a son, a brother, a teammate, and a young man whose presence mattered to many.

Wherever family and friends chose to remember him — in memorial gatherings, messages, and the support of his school — Gerald’s life was marked by ordinary, meaningful things: family, friendship, sport, and the everyday moments that made him known to those closest to him. His memory lives on in those who loved him and in the community that mourned a promising life lost too soon.
