Remembering Gerald
A life held close in memory
Gerald Andre Lomax Jr. was a young man whose life was shaped by family, school, and a love of athletics. Born June 1, 2007, he grew up in Birmingham and attended P.D. Jackson‑Olin High School, where classmates and coaches knew him for his participation on the varsity football and basketball teams. Those who knew Gerald remembered a friendly, enthusiastic teenager who enjoyed watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
At school he was known as a teammate who showed up for practices and games, someone who took pride in representing Jackson‑Olin on the field and court. Off the field, Gerald liked video games and the everyday moments shared with relatives and classmates. Family notices and local memorials list the people closest to him — parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles — and describe a boy surrounded by family who loved him deeply.
In November 2024, Gerald was seriously wounded in a shooting on the evening of November 12 and was taken for medical care; he passed away the following day. That loss has been felt across his school and neighborhood, where friends and coaches have remembered him for his smile, his kindness, and the promise of the years ahead. His funeral arrangements were handled locally and a community of relatives, classmates, coaches, and friends gathered to honor his life.
While public records detail the tragic way Gerald’s life ended, what endures is the picture of a teenager who loved his teams, whose laughter and presence mattered to those around him, and whose family continues to mourn and celebrate his memory. He is survived by close family members and many who will hold the memory of his warmth and energy in their hearts.
