George Stanley “Stan” Oakley was a devoted father, grandfather, Marine veteran, and longtime Jenn‑Air employee whose kindness and family devotion shaped the lives of those who loved him.

George Stanley Oakley, known to many as “Stan,” was born April 13, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana. A lifelong Hoosier, Stan grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1968. Soon after graduation he answered his country’s call and served in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that reflected his steady sense of duty and quiet strength.
After his military service, Stan built a long career at Jenn‑Air, where he worked until retirement. Colleagues and friends remember him as a dependable presence who took pride in his work and supported those around him. At home he was a loving father and grandfather who treasured time with his daughter and grandchildren, finding simple joy in family visits and everyday moments together.
Faith and family were central to Stan’s life. He accepted Christ at an early age and remained connected to his community. He is remembered by his daughters, Nekole Oakley and Tameka Bridges; grandchildren Daliyah Riding, Aija Howard, Amazen Stevenson, and Garry Howard; siblings and many nieces, nephews, and longtime friends who drew comfort from his steady warmth and memory.
Friends and family celebrated Stan’s life at services held in Indianapolis. Those who knew him recall a man whose life was shaped by service—to his country, to his work, and most of all to his family. Though he passed away on January 15, 2021, at age 70, the care he gave to loved ones and the steady, ordinary kindness he offered to others continue to live on in their memories.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, George P. Oakley and Dorothy Oakley, and three sisters. He is survived by siblings Georgetta, Dorothea, Mary, Charlene Oakley, Valerie Garner (Richard), and brothers Gregory, Jerome, John, Charles P. and Charles E. Oakley, among others. The family invited those who wished to honor his memory to share remembrances and send flowers through the funeral provider.
George “Stan” Oakley will be remembered not for how he died but for the life he built: a life of service, steady work, faith, and devotion to the family he loved.
