Obituary

A formal remembrance

Ethan Alexander Noll (August 21, 1980 – April 4, 2015) cherished family, the outdoors, and a life shaped by service and self-reliance. Born in South Dakota and raised in New Mexico from his teenage years, Ethan completed his education at Highland High School and later graduated from St. John’s Military School. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps with the Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, a time that left him with a deep sense of duty and quiet strength.

After his military service, Ethan returned to New Mexico and built an off‑grid, passive‑solar stone house where he and his wife raised their family. A skilled welder with associate degrees in Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences and Applied Technologies from CNM, Ethan started his own welding business and used those talents to support and sustain his household. He loved the land — hunting, trapping, and fishing were among the ways he found peace and connection to nature.

Family was central to Ethan’s life. He was a devoted husband to his wife Erin and a proud father to Aidan, Bailey, Kellar, Wyatt, and Clayton, with a son expected in June. Those who knew him remember his broad smile, intellectual curiosity, musical and artistic interests, and a generous spirit that drew people to him. He is also survived by his parents, Bruce and Betsy Noll, and siblings Hilary and Lief, along with a wide circle of relatives and friends who treasured him.

Ethan’s combination of practical skill, love for his family, and commitment to a self-sustained life left a lasting impression on those around him. While his passing was a profound loss, his warmth, leadership, and the life he built for his family remain as enduring memories. In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to support his wife and children.
