Ernestine Saucedo

Ernestine Saucedo, who performed as Ernestine Romero, was a beloved voice in Northern New Mexico and a committed public servant. Known for her powerful Tejano-style singing and energetic stage presence, she recorded multiple albums and won regional recognition for her music. Offstage she carried that same care into her work at the New Mexico Public Education Department, where colleagues remember her as a dedicated executive budget analyst supervisor who took pride in serving her community.

Born in the late 1980s and raised in the Española/Pojoaque region, Ernestine remained deeply connected to family and community throughout her life. She is survived by her parents, siblings, extended relatives, and many fans and friends who admired her talent, warmth, and devotion to those she loved. Her family celebrated her many gifts — as a sister, daughter, and performer — and cherished memories of her laughter and music. She also treasured her dogs and the everyday comforts of home.

Ernestine’s musical accomplishments included numerous recordings and awards from the New Mexico Hispano Music Association, and she was a familiar presence at local events where she shared her voice with generous spirit. Her work at the Public Education Department reflected the same commitment to community that animated her performances: steady, earnest, and focused on helping others.

Her sudden passing on July 11, 2019, left family, colleagues, and the New Mexico music community mourning a bright, talented life taken too soon. In remembering Ernestine, those who loved her honor the songs she sang, the care she gave to her work, and the relationships that mattered most to her. She is remembered with affection and respect by family, friends, her music colleagues, and the many people whose lives were touched by her voice and kindness.
