A formal remembrance
Elizabeth Carol Pilkey Miles (March 2, 1998 – December 6, 2020) is remembered for a bright, creative spirit and a love of the outdoors. Born in Bellingham, Washington, Liz grew up with a curiosity for making — whether drawing and painting portraits, shaping glass, or crafting vibrant tie-dye. Her art was a true reflection of a generous, observant heart that enjoyed finding beauty in everyday moments.
A 2016 graduate of Cole Camp High School, Elizabeth carried her small-town roots with her even after moving to Kansas City. She worked as a painter through Union Local #3 and earlier for Millberger Pest Control, finding pride in work well done and satisfaction in practical creativity. Those who knew her recall a patient hand and an eye for color — qualities that carried from her studio work into the many ways she cared for those around her.
Outside of art and work, Liz loved time spent in nature. She enjoyed fishing and swimming, camping under open skies, and the simple freedom of riding four-wheelers. These pastimes reflected an adventurous streak and a joyful appreciation for being active and outdoors.
Family and close relationships were central to Elizabeth’s life. She was married to Brandon Scott Miles and was the devoted mother of a daughter, Amelia. She is also remembered by her father, Thomas Pilkey; sister Victoria Figueroa; brother William Figueroa; and other family members who survive her. Her mother, Joy Figueroa, preceded her in death.
Friends and family honored Elizabeth’s life with a visitation held at Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp. Those who loved her remember her most for the warmth she offered in small gestures, the beauty she produced with her hands, and the light she shared in the lives of her daughter and close family.
Elizabeth’s life — her art, her laughter in the outdoors, and her devotion to family — endures in the memories of those who knew her and in the work she created. She is remembered with love.
