Elijah Smith

Elijah Ismael Smith (February 26, 2012 – November 15, 2024) was a warm, lively 12-year-old whose bright spirit and caring nature left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. A student at Lemon Grove Academy Middle School, Elijah loved skate parks, spent time with friends near his school, and delighted in simple joys — blue was his favorite color. Family members remember him for his playful sense of humor and for giving what his sister called “the biggest heart ever.”

Elijah grew up surrounded by family who loved him deeply. He was a devoted son and a proud brother whose presence brought comfort and laughter at home. Those who gathered to honor him recalled moments of kindness and the small, everyday ways he made people smile. His sister organized a GoFundMe to help the family with funeral expenses, and the school and community held a vigil and balloon and lantern releases in his memory.

Friends and neighbors described Elijah as a young boy full of promise, whose life was centered on family, school, and the simple pleasures of childhood. In remembering Elijah, his loved ones emphasize his warmth, his ability to make others laugh, and the gentle kindness he freely offered.

Elijah’s family has asked for privacy as they grieve and has called on the community to come forward with any information that might help them find answers. While his life was far too short, the compassion he showed others and the ways his family and community continue to honor him stand as a testament to the love he gave and received. Elijah will be remembered for the joy he carried into every room and the bright presence he was to those who loved him.
