Elijah Adam Benson

Elijah Adam Benson brought music, kindness, and faith into the lives of those who knew him. Born August 18, 1997, in Clear Lake City, Texas, Elijah was a senior at Burnet High School where he played with the Bulldog Band and participated in the varsity BETC theater company. He loved playing guitar and writing songs — quiet ways he expressed thoughtfulness and creativity.

Family and friends remember Elijah for his deep commitment to his faith and his desire to share that faith with those around him. He treasured close relationships with his mother, father, sister, grandparents, and extended family, and he valued his friendships in Burnet. Those who knew him recall a young man who cared about others and sought to live out his beliefs in ordinary, meaningful moments.

A memorial service was held on August 23, 2014, at the Burnet High School Auditorium, where community members gathered to celebrate his life with music and remembrance. Arrangements and cremation were entrusted to Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.

Elijah’s family includes his mother Benae and Mike Hickman of Burnet, his father John David Benson of Troup, his sister Sarah Benson of Burnet, his girlfriend Chasity Reyes, and grandparents Patricia and Frank Veenstra, Mary Elaine Benson, and James and Sue Hickman, among other relatives. The care shown by his family and the support of his community reflect the place he held in their lives.

Elijah’s life, though brief, was marked by gifts he shared — music, faith, and friendship. He is remembered with love by those who were blessed to know him.
