Obituary

A formal remembrance

Edward “Eddie” Hagood (June 17, 1999 – December 17, 2024) was remembered for his big heart, quick smile, and the strength he showed through adversity. Born in Detroit and raised by his family who later made their home in Thomasville, Eddie’s life centered on the people he loved: his mother Carol Burgess, his children Ke’vai Kimmons, Esayah Spencer, and King Adams, and a large circle of siblings and extended family who treasured his humor and loyalty.

Eddie loved basketball and friends often recalled his energy on the court. He also carried a quieter talent — a love of singing he kept close to his heart. Those who knew him describe him as respectful to elders, generous, and always ready with a joke or a playful prank. He had a goofiness that made everyday moments brighter and a way of lifting others’ spirits with his words and laughter.

Eddie faced serious health challenges in his life with remarkable determination. As a child he was diagnosed with epilepsy, and after a previous shooting injury he worked hard to recover mobility when doctors had given him little hope. Family and friends remembered him for that fierce persistence and the dignity with which he lived each day.

Funeral services were arranged in Thomasville in late December 2024 to celebrate Eddie’s life. Those who loved him remember a young man who gave freely of himself, who spoke life into others, and whose energy will be carried forward by his children, family, and friends. He is survived by his mother Carol Burgess; his father Antonio Hagood; his children; and many siblings and relatives who will continue to honor his memory.
