Dontai Carter

Dontai Rashad Carter (June 10, 1990 — March 1, 2014) is remembered by family and friends for the warmth he brought to ordinary days and the close bonds he treasured. A devoted father to his daughter, Davaylin Carter, Dontai cherished his role in her life. He was a loving son to Jacqueline Carter and Norman Christopher Davis, and a brother whose childhood memories—like playfully pretending to be Donatello from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—were fondly recalled by his sister Lakeisha.

Raised in Denver, Dontai attended Hallett Elementary, Smiley Middle School, and graduated from George Washington High School. He grew up participating in church life at Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ, where he was part of Sunday School and the Sunshine Band during his youth. Those who knew him remember small, human details that revealed his personality: the family stories, the laughter at shared memories, and the steady presence he offered to relatives and friends.

Dontai is survived by his daughter Davaylin; his companion Sigourney Keith; his parents; siblings and extended family who held him dear. His family members—grandmother District Missionary Marlene Wells among them—stood by one another while honoring his life. The outpouring of support at his memorial services reflected the many connections Dontai formed over the years.

Though his life was cut short, those who loved Dontai recall a young man whose everyday presence mattered: a son, a brother, a friend, and a father.
