Remembering Devarean
A life held close in memory
Devarean Jermaine Gomez was born on October 11, 2006, and raised in Hobbs, New Mexico. In his 17 years, he was known to family and friends for a playful spirit and a generous heart. Devarean’s presence brought light to everyday moments — he had a knack for making others smile with well-intentioned goofiness and a quick laugh that could ease a heavy room.
Devarean loved the rhythms of life in his community and was surrounded by family who cared for him deeply. He is remembered by his mother, Karen Gomez, who created a memorial space to preserve memories and invite loved ones to share stories, photos, and condolences. In keeping with the family’s wishes, remembrances and a burial service were held in Hobbs; Devarean was laid to rest at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
Though his time was far too short, Devarean’s life mattered profoundly to those who knew him. The outpouring of support following his passing showed how many people were touched by his warmth and the simple kindnesses he offered. Those who loved him recall his bright smile, his playful nature, and the small, everyday ways he showed care.
Devarean’s memory lives on in the family stories, shared photographs, and the messages posted on his memorial site. He is remembered not for the circumstances of his death but for the person he was in life — a son, a member of his Hobbs community, and a young man whose brief life left an imprint of love and laughter. May those who cherished him find comfort in each other and in the gentle remembrance of the life he lived.
