Remembering Derek
A life held close in memory
Derek Jason Cornell (February 26, 1975 – January 18, 2024) cared for his family and community with steady hands and a ready heart. For many years Derek worked in towing and roadside assistance, operating Wolfpack Tow/#1 Wolfpack Towing and Recovery out of Goldfield. He was known to neighbors and travelers alike as the person who would respond when someone needed help on the roadside. Beyond his work, Derek volunteered with the Goldfield Volunteer Fire Department, giving time and energy to the safety of his small town.
Family was central to Derek’s life. Friends and local coverage describe him as a loving husband and father of four who took pride in providing for his household and supporting his children. His dedication to both his family and his community was reflected in how fellow tow operators and neighbors spoke of him after his passing—recalling long hours on the road, service calls answered without complaint, and a ready willingness to help others.
Derek’s passing was met with an outpouring of grief and respect from the towing and first-responder communities. Colleagues gathered to honor him, and friends organized support for his family as they made funeral arrangements. A visitation and funeral service were arranged by Palm Downtown Mortuary in Las Vegas in early February 2024, giving family and friends an opportunity to remember his life and the many ordinary, dependable ways he cared for others.
He is remembered for his work ethic, his role as a volunteer firefighter, and the quieter, steady presence he offered loved ones and neighbors. Though Derek’s life was cut short, the practical kindnesses he provided—helping drivers in need, answering the call as a volunteer, and putting his family first—left an impression on those who knew him. May his memory be a comfort to his wife, Keyna, their children, and all who were touched by his generosity.
