Their life, in the words of those who remember
The story of Dequelon Penn
Dequelon Trevaune Penn—known to family and friends as “Tuggie”—built a life around his children, his craft, and the small joys that made everyday moments special. Born August 25, 1992, he grew up in the Tulsa area and attended Will Rogers High School. Afterward he pursued vocational training through Job Corps and earned a degree in carpentry, a trade he loved and practiced with care and pride.
Those who knew Dequelon remember his easy smile and the warmth he brought to gatherings. Music and dancing were among his greatest pleasures; he moved to rhythm and brought laughter to people around him. Most of all he was a father. He cherished his two sons and worked toward the goal he spoke of often—to give them a better life and steady support as they grew.
Dequelon’s family ties were important to him. Public remembrances list his parents, siblings, and extended family among those who survive him, and they, along with close friends, recall his joyful nature and his devotion to his children. His carpentry skills, gentle humor, and love of music made him a presence in the lives of those closest to him.
On October 3, 2018, Dequelon’s life was cut short in Tulsa. The loss was felt deeply by his family, his sons, and the community that knew him as “Tuggie.” While the public record preserves limited details of the circumstances surrounding his death, what endures most clearly is the portrait of a young man who cared for his children, took pride in his work, and found joy in music, dancing, and family.
Though brief, Dequelon’s life mattered to many. This remembrance honors his role as a father, a skilled tradesman, and a loved member of his family and community. His sons and those who loved him carry forward memories of his laughter, his ambitions for a better future for his family, and the small, everyday kindnesses that made him who he was.
