A life held close in memory
David “Smiley” Turner III, age 35, passed away on March 21, 2015, in New Orleans. Cherished by his family, David was a devoted father to Marcel, Dajuan, DaJah and Adrien and the beloved son of Annette T. Duronslet and David Turner, Jr. He was remembered by a wide circle of siblings, extended family, and friends who celebrated the joy he brought into their lives.
Friends and relatives recall David’s presence in family gatherings and the comfort of his laughter—qualities that earned him the nickname “Smiley.” He is survived by numerous brothers and sisters and a broad network of cousins, aunts and uncles who shared in his life and continue to honor his memory.
A memorial service was held on April 4, 2015, at Charbonnet-Labat-Glapion Funeral Home in New Orleans, where family and friends gathered to pay tribute to his life and to support one another in grief. Those who knew David remember him first for his relationships and the ordinary, meaningful ways he connected with family and community.
Though his life was cut short, David’s legacy lives on through his children and the many relatives and friends who carry his memory forward. His family has welcomed remembrances and condolences from the community as they continue to celebrate his life and honor his place in their hearts.
