Obituary

A formal remembrance

David Carter, 57, was remembered for his deep ties to family and the neighborhood grocery business his family helped build. As a co-owner of Easy‑Way, he was known by customers and employees for his commitment to quality and for bringing fresh produce to the Mid‑South. People who knew David recall a steady presence in the store — a person who took pride in doing the right thing in business and in life.

Born into the Carter family that long operated Easy‑Way, David’s life was rooted in the work and traditions of a family business. He valued fairness, dependability, and treating customers with respect. Those qualities showed in the way colleagues described him and in the steady loyalty of customers who remembered his kindness and ready smile.

David was devoted to his wife, Karen Sanders Carter, and to his large family, including children Brian, Craig, Steven, Joseph, Amanda, Asa Sanders, Katherine Sanders and Victoria Sanders, and grandchildren who survived him. He was preceded in death by his father, Barry M. Carter Sr., and his sister Sarah Carter, and is survived by his mother Joleta Carter, brother Barry M. Carter Jr., and sister Suzanne Smith. The family received friends and held services at First Presbyterian Church in Hernando, MS, where many from the community came to honor his life.

Colleagues and community members asked for privacy for the family while expressing the hope that David’s legacy of caring for customers and community would be how he was remembered. Memorial contributions in his name were directed to the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, reflecting a focus on helping others.

Those who knew David remember him as a hardworking, honorable man whose life touched customers, employees, and family. His presence in the neighborhood stores and the community he served left a lasting impression on many who relied on his integrity and kindness.
