Darryl Terry

Darryl Terry (May 18, 1963 – May 18, 2014) is remembered as a family-centered man who cared about his community. In the weeks before his passing he opened the Allendale Market in Sheraden, hoping to provide everyday necessities and a friendly presence on Allendale Street. He was a proud father whose children and family were central to his life.

Those who knew Darryl recall a man who worked to build opportunities for himself and those around him. Starting a neighborhood store reflected his determination and willingness to invest in the people and place he called home. Friends and family gathered after his death to honor his life, share memories of his warmth, and hold a service where loved ones spoke of his devotion to family and community.

Darryl is survived by his children and a broad circle of relatives. Loved ones organized memorials and a community march to celebrate his life and to call for peace in the neighborhood he served. He was laid to rest with family in Virginia, where many came together to pay their respects.

Though his time was cut short, Darryl’s dedication to his family and his efforts to serve Sheraden through his new business left a lasting impression on neighbors and friends. His family’s memories and the notes and flowers left at the market continue to speak to the place he held in their lives.
