Obituary
A formal remembrance
Darrell Boston Stokes-Young was born April 24, 1995, and grew into a young man remembered for his warmth, humor, and bright presence. Family and friends called him "Boston" or "Baby D," names that reflect the close bonds he kept with those who knew him best. A graduate of Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Darrell stood out on the basketball court and earned the admiration of teammates and coaches. His athletic ability led to a scholarship to Sullivan County Community College, where he continued to pursue both sport and study.
Darrell balanced work and family life with steady determination. He held positions at Walmart and at Yale New Haven Hospital, contributing to his community while also providing for his young son, who was a central part of his life. Those who loved him recall his sense of style, his easy humor, and the way he could make people laugh — small, everyday things that made him unmistakably himself.
Friends and family remember Darrell as playful and quick with a joke, someone who enjoyed making others smile. Though a full life was cut far too short, the memories he left — on the basketball court, at work, and at home with his child — endure. Services were arranged by Riley Funeral Home in July 2019 as loved ones gathered to celebrate his life and to share stories of his kindness and energy.
Darrell's life mattered deeply to those who loved him. He is remembered with affection by family members, teammates, coworkers, and friends who recall his laughter, his loyalty, and the small ways he brightened the lives around him. May his memory be a comfort to his son and to all who keep him in their hearts.
