Remembering Curtis

A life held close in memory

Curtis Kador Sr., a native of Baton Rouge who made Marshall, Texas his home after attending Wiley College on a basketball scholarship, passed away on November 23, 2021. A 1980 graduate of Wiley College, Curtis was known in his community as a thoughtful, steady presence who cared for family and contributed quietly through his work and civic ties.

Curtis built a long career as a supervisor with the City of Marshall before retiring. Colleagues and neighbors remember him as someone who took pride in his responsibilities and who treated others with respect. His connection to Wiley College and to the bonds of fraternity life were important to him; he was honored with Masonic rites and recognition from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity as part of his final services.

Family was central to Curtis’s life. He is survived by his mother, Nellie Joan Kador; his sons Curtis Kador Jr. and Christopher Kador Sr.; several stepchildren; siblings; and grandchildren who carried forward the everyday warmth of his household. Services to honor his memory were held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with interment at Our Lady of Knight Cemetery in Port Allen. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Miller & Daughter Mortuary in Zachary, Louisiana.

Those who knew Curtis remember him for his quiet dignity, his loyalty to family, and his lifelong connection to the communities that shaped him. While public records note the circumstances of his death, his life was defined by the relationships he nurtured, the work he did for his city, and the generations of family who survive him. He leaves behind a community that mourns his loss and honors his memory.
